About Peacebench

Hi,

I am a single mother of three finishing my certification in Conflict Resolution. I am looking for any information about personal, educational, or any other grants or federal aide that might be available to me.

My future goals are to be first court appointed to mediate business and family cases, then work on in school seminars to promote cultural diversity, and personal peace.

However, it is difficult to apply for grants, study, and work a completely unrelated job in order to do this. So any help or direction is much appreciated!

Personal Grants

MODEST NEEDS GRANTS:

In keeping with its mission, Modest Needs offers the following types of grants
  • Self-Sufficiency Grants

Modest Needs makes Self-Sufficiency Grants by remitting payment to a creditor for an expense on behalf of an otherwise self-sufficient individual or family for a relatively small, emergency expense which the individual or family could not have anticipated or prepared for.

In making a Self-Sufficiency Grant, our goal is to prevent an otherwise self-sufficient individual or family from entering the cycle of poverty as a result of the financial burden posed by a relatively small emergency expense.

For example, we might make a Self-Sufficiency Grant to cover the cost of an emergency auto repair that must be made if an individual is to continue working.

  • Back-to-Work Grants

Modest Needs makes Back-to-Work grants by remitting payment for a small work-related fee or expense on behalf of a temporarily unemployed individual.

In making a Back-to-Work grant, our goal is to provide a willing but temporarily unemployed individual with the means to return to work.

For example, we might make a Back to Work grant to cover the cost of a professional license renewal for a temporarily displaced worker.

  • Independent Living Grants

Modest Needs makes Independent Living Grants by remitting payment to a creditor for an expense on behalf of persons who are permanently unable to work but who nevertheless are living independently on the limited income to which they are entitled - their retirement income, or their permanent disability income, for example.

In making an Independent Living Grant, our goal is to empower financially responsible persons who cannot work to continue to live independently on their limited incomes, despite an unexpected expense which no conventional agency is prepared to address.

For example, we might make an Independent Living Grant to cover the cost of maintenance on a piece of accessibility equipment not covered by Medicaid, to cover an unexpectedly large prescription medication co-pay, or to assist with a large summer cooling bill.

You should apply for a Bridge Grant if:You are currently unemployed and need help to afford a small, emergency expense that is essential to your ability to look for / accept new employment and /or to remain self-sufficient while waiting for your unemployment benefits to start.

For example, a person who received a layoff letter recently due to the economic downturn and cannot afford to pay rent while waiting for unemployment benefits to kick in would be an excellent candidate for a Bridge grant.

    About og2

I am in my 50's trying to re-enter the job market.  I have decided to go back to school for specialized training.  I am looking for personal or individual grant information that can help me pay for tuition, etc.  If anyone here could point me in the right direction of where to look on the net, I would be very grateful.  I don't mind research and doing the leg work.  I've tried so many sites and they all want money I don't have to access "their" databases. Thank you for any tips, advise you care to send my way.

Kids are doing great in school....MUST keep them here!

South Florida is extrememly expensive, yet under the guise of the non-custodial parent assisting, I enrolled all three kids in public school here.  We have lived here for over seven [7 yrs], although I am not quite sure how.  Just after the hurricanes, I lost all child support and took a full-time job that barely made enough to pay the basics....and did not qualify for assistance.  After attempting to work this way for almost two years, I could not seem to actually ever "catch-up".  I lost my job the beginning of August 2007 when I asked for a transfer to a school program in my county [could not pay all the travel expenses and car repairs with no raise in pay].  Thus.....I enrolled in school to get a degree.....basic necessities are piling up, and it is a full-time job to apply at all the different local agencies.  With less than $100 per week in cash and Food Stamps that do not get deposited, the Work Force Agency here is not providing any guidance.  I am really beginning to wonder......are there any local foundations that I might apply for personal grants so we can get through this difficult time and I can indeed finish school and keep my kids in school here?  The unemployment rate here is rising as fast as the foreclosure rate.

I am a single, Christian Mom of three children.  We have been here, in Palm City; this small suburban community on the central/southeastern coast of Florida for just over seven [7] years.  My children had previously attended a small Lutheran school in Michigan in previous years, despite the "battles" that they face in public school, all three [3] have thrived.

I am a former Christian Child Care provider that specialized in assisting "welfare-to-work" families/programs.  Since my daughter's near fatal illness and subsequent surgery, we had to close the Day Care, and relocate to Florida.  Since her health has steadily improved, I became very involved with my local Lutheran Church and the YMCA as a program director that served some sixty [60] or so families with a literacy/mentoring program that was a partnership between the Florida Alliance of YMCA's and the Volunteer Florida foundation.

I have successfully been a "cog" in the work of the Lord in providing quality programming to our community through church-sponsored programs and community-wide Associations.

I am no one special, and yes; have too admittedly fallen prey to the system to which I have counseled so many other young families to in the past.  My saving grace, is that I know that it is all for a reason, and that valuable lessons are being learned in the process.  Yet, it does indeed take a village to raise a child, and during any one of my children's next performances, I will indeed shed a tear or two, and remember that.

Project, Housing and Everyday Living Expences

Our Family works in exchange for housing which provides us with no cash money to work from a budget. We care for 3 seperate properties that are in dire needs of financing to bring them up to city code.

House #1 .- Needs funding for Electrical, Plumbing, and black mold removal and staircase wood rot needs renewed with other basic requirements for healthy living.

House #2.- Needs funding for a complete roof removal and restoration and interior supports.Plumbing and up to code electrical.

House #3.- Needs new water pipes installed, lead paint removal ,new paint, a kitchen floor and plumbing with fixtures.

what little finances we have avalible due to all the work load  these places require the normal bills such as water,  garbage, gas, and electric, vehicle registration, diapers and formula are a nightmare to figure out how to get the money for them.

My husband works a second job for the above bills but the long hours and next to nothing pay it seems more resanable for him to work the job that keeps the roof over our heads.

we would like to research the nutricious values of water hyanthis for livestock food so we can economically clear the deltas water ways due to massive overgrowth of the plant clogging up the delta from edge to edge you can literally walk across to near by islands. The fish and other natural wildlife are barely surviving in these areas. Our research would include the construction of a solar powered surface mulching unit that is enviormentally friendly to surrounding wildlife habitat and envimentally friendly due to not using any toxic substances that would leak into our waterways.
